The 100 miles complete the programme …
Last year, for the first edition of the 200 Miglia di Imola, the organisers focused on this mythical race exclusively. But in their quest to offer always more to the fans of classic and beautiful machines, they now also put the original prologue on the programme: the 100 Miles !
This race has different origins.
Initially, the 200 Miles in Italy were reserved for 750cc bikes only, meeting the requirements of the championship of that category. In 1974, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, the AMA imposed a displacement of 500cc for the 200 Miles of Daytona, and the small displacements that had won in 1972 (Emde with his Yamaha 350) and in 1973 (Saarinen also aboard a Yamaha 350cc), were put into the group of the 100 Miles. This extra race allowed the Italian organisers to invite many other great riders who didn’t have a 750cc for the 200 Miles.
This return to the original programme will allow us to see riders such as Christian Sarron, Gianfranco Bonera, Roland Freymond, Steve Baker, Pentti Korkonen, Chas Mortimer, Rocco Tedesco, Fiorini Cimatti and many other stars from the seventies.
